The University of Cincinnati continues to advance its commitment to sustainability, with On the Green earning a prestigious 4-Star Certified Green Restaurant designation from the Green Restaurant Association.

This national recognition highlights On the Green's leadership in environmentally responsible dining. The certification is awarded to restaurants that meet rigorous standards across multiple sustainability categories, and On the Green exceeded expectations, earning an impressive 365.5 GreenPoints.

GreenPoints are part of the Green Restaurant Association's nationally recognized certification system and represent verified sustainability actions taken across operations. Restaurants earn points for initiatives in areas such as water efficiency, energy use, waste reduction, sustainable food sourcing, and chemical and pollution reduction. The total number of points reflects both the breadth and depth of sustainable practices implemented - meaning the higher the score, the greater the environmental impact.

With 365.5 GreenPoints, On the Green demonstrated a comprehensive and measurable commitment to sustainability, achieving one of the highest levels of certification available.

Additional initiatives contributing to this achievement include a robust recycling program and the elimination of polystyrene foam products, reinforcing efforts to reduce waste and support a healthier campus environment.

To celebrate this milestone, 513 Culinary Group at the University of Cincinnati will host a "Getting the Green" Celebration on April 13 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at On the Green. The event invites students, faculty and staff to recognize the achievement and learn more about the sustainable practices that contributed to this national certification.

The Green Restaurant Association independently verifies all certifications, ensuring that each designation reflects measurable environmental impact and accountability.

This recognition highlights On the Green's role as a leader in sustainable campus dining and reflects the University of Cincinnati's broader commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.
