WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 16, 2026) - Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey, the only Democrat in Kentucky's congressional delegation, spoke with reporters ahead of Trump's rally in Northern Kentucky tomorrow and called out the President's planned visit to a state he won by 30 points to sell an economy Kentucky families already know is failing them.
New data shows the average household in Kentucky has paid more than $4,100 extra for everyday essentials since Trump took office.
"The President should have to answer for every lie he's told over the last 2 years," McGarvey said when asked about Trump's visit. "Tell Kentuckians why we're paying more for gas, why people's health insurance is more expensive, why people's groceries are more expensive. Everything is way more expensive because of him and his policies, and he should answer for what he's done to people."
The Cost of Trump's Presidency in Kentucky
Since Trump took office…
Kentucky families have spent:
- $748 more on housing costs, such as rent and mortgage payments
- $310 more for groceries and
- $190 more on electricity in Trump's first year than in 2024
- $100s more on health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs after Trump's Medicaid cuts
Kentuckians have collectively spent $2 billion more on gas…
…and each family has spent nearly $1,000 more on gas ($985) since the start of Trump's war in Iran.
