Suspect Arrested After Officer-Involved Shooting | February 2026

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred just after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

A Northeast Team officer was dispatched to Office Depot at 333 N. 50th Street for an alarm near the rear doors. When he arrived, the officer located a man inside a small access door behind the dumpster near the back dock. He gave verbal commands to the suspect, but he did not comply. The suspect threw a metal object before firing at the officer who returned fire. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as a 49-year-old Lincoln man. Once other officers arrived and determined it was safe to approach, they immediately rendered first aid on the scene. The suspect was then taken to the hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue where he underwent surgery for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Once released, the suspect will be taken to the Lancaster County Jail for attempted murder, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm and other possible charges.

The officer was not injured. He is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting. LPD will identify both the suspect and the officer at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing as crime scene investigators work to gather and process evidence, review body-worn camera footage and interview witnesses. Part of the investigation will include determining how many rounds were fired and by whom.
