NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC AND REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
LAS 36081
Alaskan Alpine Club
July 27, 2026
Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:
APPLICANT: Alaskan Alpine Club
PROJECT NAME: LAS 36081
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: The proposed site is located approximately 41 miles southwest of Healy, near the base of Nenana Mountain in the Alaska Range.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Section 7, Township 16 South, Range 1 West, Fairbanks Meridian
REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) has received a land use permit application from the Alaskan Alpine Club for the construction and installation of a mountain hut near the base of Nenana Mountain in the Alaska Range. The proposed structure is a modular, 16-foot diameter (approx. 200 sq. ft.) hexagonal hut with an aluminum frame, 4-inch rigid foam insulation, plywood interior, aluminum panel exterior, and conical metal roof. The hut would be supported on a raised aluminum beam foundation anchored to exposed bedrock with drilled epoxy-set anchors and is intended to function as an emergency shelter and base camp for experienced, non-commercial recreational users traveling in the area.
Water will be obtained from seasonal snowpack and nearby glacial melt streams for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Human waste will be managed using a portable self-contained "pack-out" toilet system. Users will bag and remove all human waste upon departure. No pit privy, outhouse, or permanent wastewater disposal system is proposed. All other solid waste will also be packed out by users.
The applicant intends to use a helicopter to transport pre-fabricated hut panels and materials to the site via sling load.
REQUESTED TERM: 5 years
