City of Miami Reopens Senior Rental Assistance Applications on Jan. 26

The City of Miami Commission created SRAP to support senior, low-income renters (age 62 and up) living in the City of Miami whose households are at 50 percent of Area Median Income (AMI) or below and who face annual rent increases.

For those who qualify, SRAP may provide up to $500 per month toward rent, based on need, for up to one year. The City pays the assistance directly to the landlords of eligible properties. Eligible properties are defined as rental properties located within City limits that have no current code violations, fines, or outstanding fees owed to the City.

Paper applications will be available for pickup starting Monday, January 26, at 9:00 a.m., at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, and at certain City of Miami District Offices, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For location addresses, please visit the online link or call 311.

SRAP applications must be completed and accompanied by specific documents, including copies of the applicant's current Florida Driver's License or Identification Card, recent proof of household income, and a current, executed lease agreement. The applicant's household must spend more than 30 percent of monthly income on rent and be current on rent to qualify. Persons who previously applied and were approved for the program are not eligible to apply again. SRAP cannot assist seniors who are currently living in public housing or already receiving federally funded rental assistance (including Section 8, Section 202, VASH, and similar programs).

All applications received by the deadline will be considered, and the date the application is received (first day or last day) during the application period does not affect eligibility. If mailing applications, they must be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service to the address noted on the application and postmarked by Saturday, February 21, 2026. After the application period closes, the City will review applications for preliminary eligibility and disqualify those that do not meet program guidelines. The City will then conduct a random, computerized lottery for each District to create a District-specific waitlist and establish the numerical order in which applications will be processed. Funding is limited on a per-District basis, and SRAP can close at any time. Submitting an application does not guarantee eligibility or assistance.
