Interfaith Week brings communities together

Young people learn about the Sikh faith at Faith Direct

Wandsworth has an active Interfaith Forum which enables community leaders from different faiths across Wandsworth to come together and discuss how we can best support our communities in partnership.

Speaking on behalf of the Interfaith Forum, Mayor of Wandsworth Jeremy Ambache said: "We are lucky in Wandsworth to a have strong community in which we respect and value each other. This helps keep us maintain Wandsworth's strong sense of community and keeps us resilient in the face of increased tensions nationwide.

"We are determined to keep talking and listening to each other and prioritise what we share, rather than differences."

The council recently hosted Faith Direct, which gives young people from the borough's secondary school the opportunity to meet representatives from the borough's various faith groups, ask questions and find out more about each faith.

Speakers from local Bahá'í, Buddhist, Christian, Baptist, Hindu, Humanist, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh communities took part in the event, which was organised by the council's Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE), which oversees religious education in borough schools.

We are proud that Wandsworth Council is a Borough of Sanctuary, providing a welcoming, supportive home to asylum seekers. The council's Community Safety Team also continues to works with partners on the Wandsworth Community Safety Partnership to ensure Wandsworth remains one of the safest boroughs in London.

Council Leader Simon Hogg said: "This Inter Faith Week it's important to remember we are all equally valued members of the fantastic borough we are lucky to call home. We will continue to do all we can to keep our borough strong through support, understanding and shared values."
