Speaker Heastie Visits National Purple Heart Hall of Honor with Assemblymember Eachus on Statewide Tour

Speaker Carl Heastie today continued his annual statewide tour, visiting the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor with Assemblymember Chris Eachus.

"The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor is about preserving the memory of all the brave men and women who have made enormous sacrifices while serving our country," said Speaker Heastie. "It was a privilege to be at this historic site today with Assemblymember Eachus and to see this one-of-a-kind resource right here in New York State for remembrance, honor and appreciation of all Purple Heart recipients."

"I was proud to show Speaker Heastie the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, a place that honors all the brave Purple Heart recipients from across the country by telling their stories," said Assemblymember Eachus. "The incredible work of the Hall of Honor ensures the legacy and service of these brave men and women are never forgotten and I will always work to ensure that this vital space has the resources it needs."

Together, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Eachus toured the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, a New York State Park which collects, preserves and shares the stories of all Purple Heart recipients. The site of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor is located within the New Windsor Cantonment, where the Continental Army spent the final months of the American Revolutionary War. Temple Hill in New Windsor was also the site where 136 World War I veterans were conferred their Purple Hearts on May 28, 1932, following the creation of the modern Purple Heart award three months prior. Today, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor continues the tradition begun on these grounds by honoring all recipients of the Purple Heart. As there is no comprehensive list of Purple Heart recipients in existence, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor's Roll of Honor has made tremendous efforts to develop as comprehensive a list as possible.
