Foster Votes Against Senate Deal That Risks Health Coverage for Millions

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement:

"Tonight, I voted against the Senate government funding deal. Since open enrollment began, I've heard from countless constituents that their premiums are more than doubling next year-and many are not sure they will be able to afford health coverage at all. I cannot support a bill that leaves them behind.

"A 'promise' to potentially hold a vote in the Senate on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits next month does nothing to address the health care crisis Republicans have put us in-especially since Speaker Johnson has repeatedly refused to allow the House to vote on any similar measure to reduce health care costs.

"In 2010, my Democratic colleagues and I passed the Affordable Care Act, legislation that was fully paid for by raising taxes on the wealthy and provided health coverage to millions of Americans. Since taking control of Congress and the White House, Republicans have exploded the deficit by giving tax breaks to billionaires while working to strip millions of Americans of their health coverage-through cuts to Medicaid and now, the Affordable Care Act. The difference could not be more clear."
