State Awards Proposition 1-Funded Homekey+ Dollars for Rancho Cordova’s Mather Veterans Village Phase 4

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has announced new Homekey+ funding, powered by voter-approved Proposition 1, for the Mather Veterans Village Phase 4 project in Rancho Cordova. This vital expansion of the region's only supportive housing community for homeless and disabled veterans will significantly expand the current 160 permanent supportive housing for veterans experiencing homelessness and living with behavioral health challenges.

Mather Veterans Village is the result of a strong partnership between the City of Rancho Cordova, Mercy Housing California, Nation's Finest, and Sacramento County, dedicated to serving those who have served our nation. Located on the former Mather Air Force Base, the Mather Veterans Village provides housing and comprehensive supportive services near the Sacramento VA Medical Center.

Phase 4 will add 70 new permanent supportive homes, providing safe, stable housing with wraparound services specifically for very low-income and formerly homeless veterans. This phase builds upon a proven model of success established through the first three phases of Mather Veterans Village:

  • Phase 1, completed in 2016, delivered 50 permanent supportive housing units for homeless veterans.
  • Phases 2 added 46 beds for homeless veterans
  • Phase 3 added an additional 50 units and supportive facilities for veterans and their families.

"Mather Veterans Village represents the very best of what can happen when local, state, and federal partners, come together around a shared mission," said Rancho Cordova Mayor Siri Pulipati. "This additional funding is critical to ensuring more of our veterans have the safe, stable home and comprehensive support they need to rebuild their lives and thrive."

In 2024, the project received $1 million in federal funding, secured with the support of Representative Ami Bera, M.D., to advance the design and construction of Phase 4. The new Proposition 1-funded Homekey+ award from the State of California provides additional resources to bring this phase to life, ensuring that more veterans in need can access housing, health services, and stability.
