(CHICAGO) Katten announced today that Chairman Gil Soffer has been recognized by Crain's Chicago Business as one of its Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting and Law, a distinction that honors executives who are reshaping their organizations and client service, leading major initiatives and contributing to the community.
Serving as Chairman since 2024, Soffer has guided the strategic direction and growth of the firm, which has nearly 650 attorneys and reported revenue of $912.3 million. Working closely with CEO Noah Heller, he helps set and implement the firm's strategic priorities across operations. During his tenure, Katten implemented a new strategic plan, strengthened its bench of attorneys, launched a new Structured Products and Derivatives practice and opened an office in Miami, a key market for the firm and its clients.
Alongside his leadership responsibilities, Soffer maintains an active White Collar Litigation practice, conducting internal investigations, guiding clients through government inquiries and defending them in enforcement actions. The recognition reflects a career built on high-stakes, government-facing work, including appointments by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Independent Monitor for an international pharmaceutical company in a landmark Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigation, and by the federal district court in Detroit as Adjudications Officer in the United Auto Workers (UAW) monitorship. These roles drew on his experience as a former federal prosecutor and Associate Deputy Attorney General at the DOJ.
At Katten, he has served on the firm's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Goodman Theatre, and for more than a decade, he has served as Chief Legal Analyst for ABC7, Chicago's most-watched local television station.
Soffer has also been named by Crain's Chicago to its lists of Notable Litigators and Trial Attorneys, and Who's Who in Chicago Business.
