Deer hunting season and fall break overlap, UDOT pausing project to ease congestion
SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 24, 2025) - The Utah Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers on U.S. Route Six to plan for heavy delays due to fall break overlapping with the final weekend of deer hunting season.
Heavier traffic is expected on westbound US-6, with peak travel occurring on Sunday, Oct. 26. On Sunday, congestion will begin to increase at 1 p.m., with delays of up to 60 minutes or more between 3 and 6 p.m.
Work continues on the safety project at US-6 from Diamond Fork Road to the U.S. Route 89 junction in Thistle. This week, crews applied fresh paint and new rumble strips. This project is part of a multi-year effort to enhance safety on US-6, which includes installing concrete median barriers, improving overhead lighting and fixing drainage systems.
Anticipating delays this weekend, UDOT crews will temporarily pause construction and fully open lanes on US-6 from Diamond Fork Road to the US-89 junction.
UDOT reminds drivers that construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. For the latest information on traffic restrictions during construction, visit the UDOT Traffic website or download the UDOT Traffic app for iPhone or Android. Drivers can also follow UDOT on social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
