On Friday, June 12, the C lub M anagers A ssociation of A merica (CMAA) Night Therapeutic Recreation Complex hosted a Science Night for adults ages 18 and older with intellectual disabilities. The event was designed to encourage learning, exploration, social interaction, and engagement through a variety of hands-on science activities and experiments.
Participants rotated through interactive stations, each highlighting a different scientific concept. Activities included creating homemade lava lamps to explore changes in the states of matter, using food coloring and milk to observe the chemical properties of soap, watching color diffusion with M&Ms, exploring magnetism by moving iron filings with magnets and witnessing a chemical reaction that inflated a balloon.
These engaging experiments encouraged participants to observe, predict and actively participate while fostering curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. The rotating station format also promoted social interaction, strengthened communication skills, and helped build confidence as participants explored new experiences alongside their peers.
Science Night provided a meaningful therapeutic recreation experience by blending education and fun in an accessible and inclusive environment. Through innovative and enriching programs like this, the Therapeutic Recreation staff remains committed to supporting the growth, inclusion and well-being of all community members .
