Gov. Rhoden Announces Investment in Mitchell Business and Industrial Park
PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden announced support for a new business and industrial park in Mitchell with a $1 million award from the Future Fund.
"South Dakota is Open for Opportunity because our communities continue to plan ahead and set future generations up for success," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "This investment will ensure Mitchell has development-ready sites that will attract new businesses, create quality jobs, and support long-term economic growth."
Once complete, the development will provide additional industrial and commercial sites that enhance Mitchell's ability to recruit new businesses and support continued economic growth throughout the region. This grant will help finance the installation of utilities and other public infrastructure needed to complete the project.
The project builds on significant local investment, including $1 million in USDA Rural Economic Development Loan funds secured for land acquisition and an additional $1 million in local funding dedicated to infrastructure improvements.
"Mitchell has demonstrated a strong commitment to economic growth by investing alongside the state," said Mike Lauritsen, Chief Executive Officer of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation. "This partnership will help ensure our community has shovel-ready sites available to compete for future business expansion and relocation projects."
As part of the agreement, the Mitchell Area Development Corporation will prepare the property for full development, continue marketing the sites to prospective businesses, and provide ongoing progress reports to the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
