On Monday (16 February 2026) NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska welcomed members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) to NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Ms Shekerinska chaired the annual meeting with Permanent Representatives of the North Atlantic Council and NPA members as well asPresident Marcos Perestrello. They discussed progress made on the commitments Allies made at the NATO Summit in The Hague, as well as strengthening resilience, cooperating with partners, and innovating with industry.
The Deputy Secretary General opened with remarks on the recent Defence Ministers meeting and noted the shift in mindset among Allies. She highlighted that in combination with increasing defence investment, boosting defence production enhances collective security and benefits Allied economies. She urged parliamentarians to continue to advocate for support for Ukraine, including through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), to ensure that Ukraine is in a position of strength to secure a lasting peace. Ms Shekerinska welcomed the long-standing cooperation between the NATO and the NPA, highlightingthe important role of parliamentarians in representing and working with their publics. She emphasised that NATO's cooperation with the NPA is vital in helping to ensure a secure future for the one billion people who call NATO countries home.
The NPA is an inter-parliamentary organisation that is institutionally separate from NATO. It brings together parliamentarians from NATO Allies and partner countries to discuss political, defence and security issues facing the Alliance.
