Schmitt, Hawley Introduce Resolution Honoring Two Missouri Deputies Killed in the Line of Duty

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Eric Schmitt (R-MO) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a resolution honoring the lives of two fallen Missouri deputies from Christian County. Deputy Gabriel Ramirez died in the line of duty while attempting to administer a traffic stop when the suspect opened fire. This prompted a massive manhunt for the suspect involving approximately 150 law enforcement officers. When officers located the suspect, they were met with gunfire again. A 30 minute gun battle ensued, claiming the life of Deputy Michael Hislope and wounding two other deputies. Law enforcement officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

"The loss of Christian County Deputies Ramirez and Hislope is devastating and continues to reverberate throughout our state. This is a grave reminder that our brave law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and while we cannot bring back those we've lost, we can honor their sacrifice, courage, and commitment to serving their fellow citizens. I will be praying for the fallen officers, their friends, families, and those who served alongside them as we all mourn their loss," said Senator Schmitt.

"This tragedy is a reminder of the countless selfless and heroic actions carried out by Missouri law enforcement officers every day to keep our communities safe. Erin and I are praying for the families of Deputies Gabriel Ramirez and Michael Hislope, who made the ultimate sacrifice," Senator Hawley said.
