Sewer Pipe Returned to Service by Orange County Utilities, No Environmental or Public Health Threat

Orange County, FL - On September 16, Orange County Utilities completed an emergency sewer pipe repair. At no time was there a risk to the environment or the community.

Located at 3705 Sea Splash Way, the wastewater treatment system that services the area experienced a break in a large sewage pipe with ongoing issues. In September, heavy rainfall and pipe repair challenges resulted in 342,000 gallons of wastewater overflowing, most of which was recovered and directed back into the sewage system. This effort was aided by a fleet of over 100 specialized trucks from across the state.

At no point did the sewage spill reach surface water, such as Shingle Creek. There were no environmental impacts or public health risks at any time.

Orange County Utilities followed standard protocol to ensure the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) was properly notified.
