Save the date: UNI Homecoming 2026 marks sesquicentennial finale

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -Mark your calendars for UNI Homecoming Week, set for Oct. 4-10, as the University of Northern Iowa celebrates its annual showcase of Panther Pride. This year's Homecoming will serve as the grand finale of the UNI Sesquicentennial Celebrationand will also recognize the completion of the Our Tomorrow: The Campaign for UNI,the largest fundraising effort in the institution's history.

Traditional events such as the Homecoming Bash will return on Friday, October 9, with the Homecoming Parade and football game on Saturday, October 10. The Homecoming theme and full schedule of events will be announced in the coming months.

"Whether you come to Homecoming each year or you haven't been in a while, this year's celebration is one you won't want to miss," said UNI President Mark Nook. "We are reflecting on the past, celebrating our present and looking forward to our future as we close these chapters and anticipate what's ahead."

Founded in 1876 and known by several names throughout its history, the University of Northern Iowa has remained steadfast in its commitment to putting students first. In addition to officially marking 150 years of history, 2026 also marks several notable milestones, including the 50th anniversary of the first events in the UNI-Dome and the 100th anniversary of the Campanile.

"As we look forward to the culmination of our more than year-long celebration, and moving boldly toward our future, we plan to bring it home with many exciting activities," said sesquicentennial celebration co-chair Randy Pilkington.

The Our Tomorrowcampaign continues to strengthen student success and access, engaged learning, academic programs and faculty, and UNI's iconic campus spaces. To date, more than $320.7 million has been raised through the generosity of 32,794 alumni and friends, resulting in the creation of 540 new scholarships and 344 endowments. There is still time for supporters to contribute to the campaign's grand total.

"UNI's success has been built on collaboration with community partners, alumni, students and neighbors," said sesquicentennial co-chair Cary Darrah. "This moment honors our shared legacy and the collective work that will shape the next 150 years."
