Olympia City Council Approves New Names for City Parks and Facility
Olympia, WA - January 27, 2026
The Olympia City Council has officially approved new names for three city-owned properties, following an extensive public engagement process and recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee (PRAC) and the Community Livability and Public Safety (CLPS) Committee.
The newly approved names are:
Daley Arts Center
(former project name: The Olympia Armory)
The historic Armory building is being reimagined as a Creative Campus that will foster arts, innovation, and community connection. The Daley Arts Center honors former Olympia Mayor Bill Daley, whose leadership played a key role in downtown revitalization during the 1980s and in the creation of Olympia's Arts Commission.
Jolene Unsoeld Community Park
(former project name: Yelm Highway Community Park)
Located along Yelm Highway, this 83-acre park will include athletic fields, public art, and preserved natural areas. The park is named in honor of Jolene Unsoeld, former U.S. Representative and longtime advocate for civic engagement and environmental stewardship.
Marj Yung Park
(former project name: Kaiser Woods Park)
Situated in southwest Olympia, this 70-acre park will become the city's first dedicated mountain biking destination, featuring more than five miles of trails and skill areas. The name commemorates Marj Yung, a community member recognized for her lasting contributions to Olympia's parks and outdoor recreation.
Next Steps
Updated signage and branding will be incorporated into each site's development plans. Work on the Daley Arts Center and the parks is expected to advance at varying stages beginning in 2026.
