Huang Guo meets with heads of drug regulatory authorities of UK, Brazil, Indonesia

On Sept 19, Huang Guo, commissioner of China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met in Beijing with Lawrence Tallon, chief executive of the UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, Leandro Pinheiro Safatle, director-president of Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency, Taruna Ikrar, head of Indonesia's Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), and William Adi Teja, deputy I of the BPOM.

Huang extended a warm welcome to the guests. He noted that China has rolled out a series of policies to deepen reform of its drug review and approval system and encourage the development of innovative drugs. These measures have given strong impetus to the vigorous growth of the biomedical industry and continuously enhanced modern drug regulatory system that is scientific, law-based and up to international standards, he said. The NMPA stands ready to work with drug regulatory authorities of all countries to expand practical cooperation, he added.

The heads of the three drug regulatory agencies spoke highly of China's achievements in promoting pharmaceutical industry development through drug regulatory reform in recent years. They commended the NMPA's openness and pragmatic measures and expressed their expectation to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side.

All parties agreed to further deepen regulatory exchanges, explore cooperation based on mutual trust, advance industrial development, and work together to ensure that the fruits of pharmaceutical innovation reach more people, contributing to better health and well-being of humanity.

Yang Sheng, deputy commissioner of the NMPA, and principal officials from its relevant departments were also present.
