IAM Leaders Tour Norfolk Southern Roadway Shop, Highlight Skilled Trades and Leadership Development

IAM District 19 representatives recently toured the Norfolk Southern Roadway shop in Charlotte, N.C., where skilled IAM Union machinists rebuild and fabricate heavy railway maintenance equipment critical to railroad operations.

The visit showcased the expertise and craftsmanship of IAM members while also highlighting the IAM's Leadership Excellence Assembly of Dedicated Sisters (LEADS) program, an initiative focused on developing leadership skills and expanding mentorship and networking opportunities for women in the union.

As part of the program, a local union president shadowed experienced IAM representatives to gain firsthand insight into union advocacy, workplace representation and shop operations. The visit reinforced the IAM's commitment to strengthening both the skilled trades and the next generation of union leadership.
