AAUP Council Nominations Now Open

Are you passionate about higher education and academic freedom? Concerned about the erosion of tenure and shared governance, attacks on research, the rise in contingent appointments lacking job security and full academic freedom protections, and political interference in higher education? Do you have the time and enthusiasm to help lead the national AAUP? If you or a colleague are interested, please nominate yourself or that colleague as a candidate for AAUP national office.

The Association's Nominating Committee seeks nominations for candidates for election as members of the AAUP's governing Council at the June 2026 Biennial Association Meeting. Five regional Council member positions and one at-large Council member position are open for election. Elected Council members will become members of the AAUP Foundation Board of Directors. All terms are for four years, beginning after the close of the Biennial Association Meeting. The committee seeks a diverse group of candidates with experience or interest in the AAUP at the local, state, or national level.

All members of the Association in good standing, but not associates, are eligible to be nominated and elected to Council positions and to nominate other eligible members. If you wish to nominate yourself or another member as a candidate for election to a Council position, please send a nominating petition to the Nominating Committee. It must be signed by at least six AAUP members in good standing. Nominating petitions must be postmarked or sent by email by March 16. Please send nominating petitions by email to [email protected]or by mail to AAUP Nominating Committee, 555 New Jersey Ave. NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20001. The nominations process is set forth in the AAUP Constitution and the AAUP Election Rules.

Full information on nominations and election rules, including region classifications and nomination petition forms, can be found here.
