UNESCO supports Haiti to take another decisive step in the reform of its schools

After an in-depth diagnostic phase and a design phase for the new school curriculum, Phase III (2026-2029) opens the time for implementation. It aims to develop and deploy the pedagogical, institutional and operational tools necessary for the gradual generalization of the new basic school curriculum, to strengthen institutional capacities and to provide concrete support to the actors of the education system.

This new phase will pilot the revised curricula for the first and second cycles of basic education, develop innovative pedagogical and digital tools to support teachers, and strengthen the capacities of teacher trainers, inspectors and pedagogical advisors across the country.

In concrete terms, this phase will make it possible to:

  • develop digital educational resources accessible online and offline
  • train of teacher trainers, inspectors and pedagogical advisers
  • gradually roll-out of new curriculum in schools

This reform has a strong ambition: to build a fairer, more inclusive and more coherent Haitian school, which values the Haitian language and culture and places the student at the center of learning.

UNESCO also recently launched a new programme in Haiti's north-eastern region to reinforce community schools - which serve tens of thousands of students in rural areas - ensuring their integration into the national education system and strengthening adherence to quality teaching standards. The 3 million euros project is financed with EU support.
