Send Your Voice to Capitol Hill: Write a Letter, We'll Hand-Deliver It

The Top Line:You don't have to attend ASHA's Capitol Hill Day on September 23 to make your voice heard. Send a letter by September 10 on any of the issues on ASHA's Take Action page and Hill Day advocates will hand-deliver your message to members of Congress.

You don't have to travel to Washington, DC, to make a difference on Capitol Hill.

This year, ASHA is giving members another way to be part of its Capitol Hill Day advocacy. Through September 10, when you use ASHA's Take Action Center to send a letter to your members of Congress, we will print your letters, and Hill Day advocates will hand-deliver them during their meetings on September 23.

Lawmakers rely on hearing from the people they represent. While ASHA advocates year-round on behalf of the professions, hearing directly from constituents helps legislators understand how federal policies affect real people, workplaces, and communities

Here's how you can participate.

Step One: Identify an Issue

Pick from the campaigns available on ASHA's Take Action Center. Take action on issues we'll be pushing on Capitol Hill Day, including:

No matter which campaign you choose, every letter helps demonstrate broad support for communication health priorities.

Step Two: Personalize Your Letter

Only have a couple minutes? Send one of ASHA's pre-written letters as written.

Have a few more minutes? Add your personal story. Help connect the dots for your legislator on how an issue uniquely impacts you and the community you share.

Step Three: Press Send

Once the form is filled out and letter looks the way you'd like, submit it! We'll print your letter ASHA's Hill Day advocates will hand-deliver your message to your legislators' office on September 23.

Step Four: Repeat and Share With Your Colleagues

Have a little more time? Choose a different campaign and write another letter. Then, ask your colleagues to join you in advocacy.

Each federal campaign usually sends three letters-one to each of your two senators and one to your House representative. If just 1,000 people participate, our 150 Hill Day advocates would have at least 3,000 letters to deliver!
