Cary, NC - Cary's 2026 Street Improvements Project is scheduled to begin next week, with construction crews starting work this month to replace non-compliant pedestrian curb ramps in neighborhoods and along key corridors across Cary. Following the Town Council's March 26 approval of the construction bid award, the project will improve accessibility and help preserve the condition of local streets through a phased construction schedule.
From April through June, construction will focus on curb ramp replacement. After that work is complete, crews are expected to transition to milling and paving beginning in June, with paving activities continuing into the fall and project completion anticipated before the end of the year.
Improvements will take place across multiple areas of Cary, including west, central, and east Cary neighborhoods, as well as along key corridors like East Chatham Street. Planned improvement areas include CopperLeaf, MacDonald Woods, Stonewater, East Chatham Street from Templeton Street to the roundabout, High Meadow Drive at Kildaire Farm Road, Kilmayne Drive at Kildaire Farm Road, Wrenn Drive, Ashton Place, and Bargate Drive.
Residents may receive advance notice prior to work beginning in their area. During construction, temporary impacts such as limited on-street parking, short-term driveway access adjustments, and increased noise or dust are possible. Work is weather-dependent, and schedules may shift as needed. Residents are encouraged to use caution near active work zones and follow posted signage and crew guidance. Residents within the resurfacing areas who have specific questions or concerns can contact Cary 311 by dialing 311, visiting carync.gov/311, or texting 898311 for assistance.
The annual Street Improvements Project is one of Cary's key tools for maintaining streets efficiently and cost-effectively. In addition to asphalt resurfacing, the program includes ADA curb ramp replacements, curb and gutter repair, and pavement marking restoration to help extend pavement life, reduce long-term repair costs, and improve accessibility for all users.
