PCHS Senior Kai Weit Receives Franklin B. Walter Award

On Monday, April 13, Port Clinton High School Senior Kai Weit was honored with the prestigious Franklin B. Walter Award. Established by the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA), the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award Program recognizes outstanding academic achievement. Each spring, one senior from every Ohio county, nominated by an Educational Service Center, is eligible to receive this recognition.

Franklin B. Walter served as Ohio's state superintendent from March 1977 to August 1991. Throughout his career, Dr. Walter demonstrated a deep concern for young people and dedicated his life to enhancing education in Ohio. Award recipients are chosen based on their academic achievements, personal accomplishments, and community service.

Weit is actively involved in several extracurricular activities at PCHS and has numerous leadership roles. Weit serves as Historian for the Leadership Council, Treasurer for both National Honor Society and Drama Club, Secretary for the International Club, and a member of the PCHS Band. His leadership skills led his selection on the Ohio Association of Student Leaders Executive Board. He is also captain of the Academic Challenge Team. In addition, Weit is a student athlete and was a state qualifier and current team captain for PCHS Tennis. Kai is the son of Steve Weit and Sonal Vyas-Weit. Next year, Kai plans to attend Boston University, majoring in Political Science with a focus on Pre-Law.

PCHS is proud to have two Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award winners in two years. Last year Sam Roberts, Class of 2025, received the honor.
