Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Sheri Biggs (R-SC-03), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and Lieutenant Colonel in the Air National Guard, today announced she is introducing the No Mercy for Terrorists Act, legislation to ensure that individuals who provide material support to terrorist organizations face severe and lasting consequences under federal law. The legislation comes as federal authorities investigate the recent shooting at Old Dominion University as a potential act of terrorism, highlighting growing concerns about the threat posed by individuals linked to extremist groups.
"Anyone who supports terrorist organizations will face the full force of American justice," said Congresswoman Biggs. "The No Mercy for Terrorists Actmakes it clear: if you help terrorists, you will face decades behind bars, and if you abuse the privilege of American citizenship to aid our enemies, you will lose it and never step foot in our nation again. America will not be a safe haven for terrorists or those who support them."
This proposal builds on Congresswoman Biggs' broader efforts to close national security loopholes in federal law, including her No Passports for Terrorists and Traffickers Act, which would revoke or deny U.S. passports to individuals charged with or convicted of terrorism-related crimes. The No Mercy for Terrorists Act, among other things, would strengthen federal penalties for individuals convicted of providing material support to terrorist organizations, including establishing a significant mandatory minimum sentence and allow courts to impose severe penalties up to and including life imprisonment. Additionally, Congresswoman Biggs will take steps to address the ability to revoke the naturalized citizenship of individuals convicted of terrorism offenses, ensuring those who betray the United States by supporting terrorist groups cannot retain the privileges of American citizenship.
