Coming Soon: VITAS Healthcare Hospice Care in Pinellas County

Oct. 21, 2025

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Beginning Nov. 3, residents of Pinellas County will have improved access to quality end-of-life care through VITAS Healthcare, the nation's leading hospice provider. Florida's most chosen provider, VITAS will accept hospice-eligible referrals for patients in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs and surrounding communities.

According to research, only 61% of Medicare decedents in Florida access the Medicare Hospice Benefit-meaning many patients and families miss out on the medical, emotional and spiritual support available near the end of life.

VITAS is working to close this gap by expanding access to hospice services along Florida's west-central coast. Care teams work closely with patients, families, healthcare professionals and community partners to ensure comfort, dignity and support at every stage of a serious illness.

As an extension of the patient care team, VITAS provides:

  • 24/7/365 access to clinical care support
  • Individualized care plans provided by interdisciplinary teams
  • High-acuity care for patients requiring complex modalities
  • Inclusive care approaches for diverse cultural and spiritual needs
  • Resources for healthcare partners, including clinical education and hospice eligibility guidance

In addition to routine hospice care, VITAS offers:

  • Cardiac care certified by the American Heart Association
  • Specialized services for veterans
  • Comprehensive pharmacy program
  • Grief and bereavement support, including a special program for children
  • Memory Bears made from a patient's clothing or other fabric
  • Personal pampering, including massage therapy and hair care
  • Life Bio™, a legacy booklet of the patient's life created from patient stories
  • Volunteer programs, including Paw Pals® pet visits and Musical Memories

"Pinellas County deserves end-of-life care that honors each patient's values and wishes," said Kathleen Coronado, vice president of operations for VITAS. "We're grateful for the warm welcome and proud to soon offer compassionate care to patients and meaningful career opportunities to professionals who feel called to serve."

VITAS is hiring in Pinellas County for a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles, including registered nurses, hospice aides, social workers, chaplains and community representatives. Recognized as a 2025 Top Workplace in Healthcare, VITAS offers professional development and clinical education to enhance end-of-life care expertise.
