"Downtown L.A. is the economic, cultural and civic heart of our city, and its success is essential to a thriving Los Angeles," said Mayor Bass. "We are seeing businesses continue to invest in Downtown, and my administration is working every day to make sure Downtown is a place where people feel safe, where businesses can grow, and where residents and visitors want to be. Revitalizing Downtown LA requires all of us working together, and we are building that momentum together."

"For nearly 160 years, SoCalGas has provided safe, affordable and reliable energy that has helped Los Angeles grow, powering homes and businesses across the region," said Caroline Winn, chair of the board of SoCalGas. "From our earliest days lighting Main Street with gas lamps to serving more than 21 million consumers today, we are proud to continue building on that legacy. As we begin this next chapter in downtown Los Angeles, we remain committed to strengthening the communities we serve."

"SoCalGas has been a longstanding community partner: investing in our neighborhoods, supporting local organizations, and helping improve the quality of life for the people it serves," said Assemblymember González. "This commitment is one of the many reasons the company continues to be such a vital part of Los Angeles and Southern California."

"SoCalGas' new headquarters reaffirms its commitment to Downtown Los Angeles and its future," said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. "I commend their continued investment in Downtown, supporting local jobs, economic opportunity, and the long-term vitality of our community."

Founded as the Los Angeles Gas Company in 1867, SoCalGas has maintained its commitment to Downtown Los Angeles throughout its nearly 160-year history. The company's new headquarters at 2CAL will serve as an anchor tenant in the building, with more than 700 SoCalGas employees working from the new headquarters.

The new headquarters represents one of the latest examples of private-sector investment in Downtown L.A. as Mayor Bass advances a comprehensive, community-led strategy to strengthen the city center.

Mayor Bass is advancing a comprehensive, community-led strategy to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles by improving public safety and quality of life, supporting local businesses, activating public spaces and attracting new investment.

SoCalGas' new headquarters builds on recent momentum in Downtown L.A., including the opening of Banc of California's new Downtown office. Mayor Bass' Downtown revitalization efforts include:

  • Launching Vacant to Vibrant to help small businesses and entrepreneurs open in vacant Downtown storefronts through temporary rent-free space, grants, technical assistance and permitting support.

  • Creating the first Mayor's Office Downtown LA Working Group, bringing together DTLA business leaders, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), resident and neighborhood associations, and other community partners to develop solutions to improve quality of life.

  • Partnering with Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins, through her leadership as Metro Board Chair, to deploy Metro Ambassadors at Pershing Square Metro Station up to five days a week, increasing rider safety and confidence.

  • Directing Metro to send HOME (Homeless Outreach & Mobile Engagement) workers two days a week and increasing street-level cleaning two additional days a week at Pershing Square Metro Station.

  • Empowering BIDs to partner with Recreation and Parks to complete fast, effective maintenance and beautification in Downtown.

  • Establishing the Biddy Mason Memorial Park Advisory Board to guide programming, maintenance, infrastructure and fundraising, with a subcommittee focused on Spring Street Park.

  • Instructing LAPD to increase visible foot patrols in the Jewelry District and Pershing Square area, building on increased deployment of patrol cars, horse patrols, foot patrols and undercover units in Downtown at Mayor Bass' direction.

  • Finalizing approval of the expansion and modernization of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Sixteen conferences have already signed up to use the new event space, expected to bring more than 158,000 visitors Downtown and generate more than $340 million in economic impact for Los Angeles.
