About the Neighborhood Improvement Program

The program is an annual initiative by the City of Fort Worth's Neighborhood Services Department. The program strategically focuses on enhancing the quality of life and public safety within historically underserved communities.

Through targeted capital investments, enhanced maintenance protocols and community empowerment initiatives, the program cultivates improved perceptions of safety, cleanliness and neighborhood pride. It has consistently yielded tangible results, including demonstrable reductions in crime rates, increased property values and a rise in residential building permits.

While Neighborhood Services coordinates the program, the program is community-driven. Fort Worth City departments like Code Compliance, Park & Recreation and Transportation & Public Works deliver capital to neighborhoods for improvements. Examples include police safety improvements like cameras, trash pickup, streetlights, parks, sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic calming, recreation amenities, code enforcement, neighborhood cleanups, demolishing vacant structures and building neighborhood associations.

Feedback from residents and business owners in the target area helps shape the type of capital investments and programs developed for each neighborhood. This data-driven approach ensures that the program's resources are directed toward areas with the greatest need, maximizing the positive impact on the selected communities.

Since its establishment in 2017, the Neighborhood Improvement Program has provided critical funding totaling nearly $39 million for 11 Fort Worth communities, including New Mitchell (20216), Fairhaven (2025), Seminary (2024), Worth Heights (2024), Historic Marine (2023), Las Vegas Trail (2022), Como (2021), Rosemont (2020), Northside (2019), Ash Crescent (2018) and Stop Six (2017).
