Land Sales, Incentives Proposed for West Garfield Park 'Missing Middle' Housing

Four Missing Middle two-flats would be constructed in West Garfield Park through financial support and City land sales proposed to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Part of the Department and Planning and Development's Missing Middle infill housing initiative, the $3.1 million Eleve West LLC project on the 4000 block of West Jackson Boulevard is proposed to receive up to $150,000 in City support for each of the eight planned units. Funding would be provided through Housing and Economic Development Bond proceeds. The four City lots would be sold for $1 each.

The Missing Middle program incentivizes the redevelopment of vacant City lots with market-rate buildings that have gone "missing" due to decades of disinvestment. Each completed structure is sold to at least one owner-occupant as part of the initiative's community wealth-building goals. More than 300 units are underway.
