CGC Signature Series is pleased to announce an exclusive Private Signing event with artist and writer Bob Budiansky! Collectors can submit both comics and cards to this event.
During a 20-year career at Marvel Comics, from 1976 to 1996, Bob Budiansky worked as an illustrator, writer, and editor. As an illustrator, he rose to prominence as the semiregular cover artist for Ghost Rider beginning with issue #33, eventually taking over the penciling chores for the entire book. He also penciled What If … Wolverine Killed the Hulk, the Sub-Mariner mini-series, the cover to The Uncanny X-Men #120, and several Spider-Woman and Marvel Two-in-One covers, as well as many others.
He created his own monthly series, Sleepwalker, which he wrote for almost three years.
As an editor, he oversaw titles that included Spider-Man, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, The Thing, many movie adaptations, and several licensed properties, such as NFL SuperPro. Beginning in 1990, he oversaw the first 11 sets of Marvel Trading Cards, including the Marvel Universe 1-4 sets, the first three Marvel Masterpieces sets, including the Joe Jusko set, X-Men 1-3 sets, including the Jim Lee set, and the Mark Bagley Spider-Man set.
But Budiansky is perhaps best known for the work he did on The Transformers. He was the editor on the very first Transformers mini-series in 1984. He followed up that hugely successful four-issue intro by writing most of the next 51 issues of the monthly Transformers comic book. He also named, created character profiles of, and wrote Hasbro packaging copy for approximately 250 Transformers during the first six years of the brand's existence, and developed story treatments as Hasbro introduced new lines of Transformers. He edited the adaptation of 1986 animated Transformers movie and also penciled several Transformers comic book covers. In 2010, Hasbro inducted Bob into the inaugural class of the Transformers Hall of Fame.
Bob is no longer active in the comic book industry but still produces art commissions based on his comic book work.
