The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) submitted comments to the Department of Justice in response to its Request for Information on state laws that impose significant barriers to interstate commerce and harm the national economy. SIIA's letter highlights how the growing patchwork of conflicting state regulations-covering areas like privacy, artificial intelligence, child safety, and online content moderation-creates billions in compliance costs, stifles innovation, and disproportionately harms startups and small businesses.

In the filing, SIIA calls for federal solutions, including comprehensive national privacy and AI frameworks, uniform online safety standards for minors, and strong use of federal preemption authority. SIIA urges the DOJ to act to restore a unified digital marketplace that protects consumers while ensuring U.S. leadership in technology and innovation.
