Local EU Statement on the Situation in Yemen

The EU echoes the statement made by members of the Security Council and reaffirms its support to the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen and its commitment to working towards lasting peace and prosperity for the Yemeni people.

The EU calls for de-escalation and encourages enhanced diplomatic efforts by all parties and regional stakeholders.

The EU welcomes the agreement reached yesterday in Muscat on a new phase of releasing conflict-related detainees from all sides.

It reaffirms its strong commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, and to the Presidential Leadership Council and the Government of Yemen.

The EU strongly condemns the ongoing detentions by the Houthis of personnel from the United Nations system, national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations and diplomatic missions and calls for their immediate and unconditional release.
