Washington, D.C. - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement after the Trump administration released its final rule on so-called "public charge" regulations that threaten to punish lawfully-present immigrants for seeking out basic necessities like health coverage and food assistance.
"Donald Trump and Stephen Miller are once again training their sights on lawfully-present immigrants who have come to America to build a better life and contribute to the nation," Wyden said. "The families that will be harmed by the Trump administration's radical anti-immigrant crusade are taxpayers, business owners, and community members who are struggling to get by in America's have and have-not economy, just like millions of others. This is a shameful move that will make America weaker, sicker and poorer, not greater."
