The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, chaired the fifth meeting of the Joint Committee for Development Cooperation 2025 at the Foreign Ministry today. A package of measures worth a total of over €123 million was adopted, in line with the 2025 Programme adopted at the Committee meeting chaired by Minister Antonio Tajani on 2 April.
In the spirit of the Mattei Plan, particular attention was paid to Africa, for which programmes worth over €60 million were adopted. Initiatives were specifically adopted to support sustainable agricultural production in Mozambique and food security and agricultural innovation in Senegal, to strengthen the health system in Ethiopia, to create the "Enrico Mattei" Centre for training, research and innovation in the agricultural sector in Algeria, and to rehabilitate the theatre in Asmara, Eritrea. Again for Africa, the Committee reaffirmed the multi-year commitments made by the Italian Government within the G7, including a contribution to CGIAR Bioversity to strengthen the capacities of young African innovators in the agri-food sector.
Other initiatives adopted by the Committee concerned the management of essential basic services in Afghanistan and the agricultural sector in Moldova in collaboration with CIHEAM.
Finally, the Committee gave a favourable opinion on CDP financing for the North African RMBV Fund worth USD 20 million, for Georgia worth USD 40 million and Mongolia worth USD 20 million.
