Larson Condemns Trump Statement on Iran

East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Trump said, 'a whole civilization will die tonight'in reference to the Iranian people.

"Congress must come back immediately to end Trump's illegal war in Iran," said Larson. "These threats are reprehensible and beyond the pale. Congress cannot let any leader assert that he is above the Constitution. Article I makes it clear that he must come before Congress to authorize acts of war. Threatening to obliterate a country is clearly an act of war! We must take action urgently in response to these threats. I join Leader Jeffries' call for Republicans to put duty over party and stop this madness. Where are they? Are none of them willing to stand up to Trump?"

In March, Larson voted for H.Con.Res.38, a bipartisan war powers resolution to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran. He is also a cosponsor of another war powers resolutionthat would withdraw U.S. forces from Iran. In January, Larson voted to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities with Venezuelaafter Trump authorized operations there without prior Congressional approval. Larson also voted against the Iraq War in 2002.
