NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (June 28, 2026) - New Brunswick will honor the nation's milestone 250th anniversary with a massive, free Independence Day celebration at scenic Boyd Park on Thursday, July 2. The expansive riverfront event is scheduled to run from 1 to 9 p.m., combining historic patriotic pride with summer flavors, community activities, and major live sports entertainment.
This year's semiquincentennial festival doubles as a premier sports hub, featuring two massive 20-foot LED screens broadcasting a pair of FIFA World Cup matches live.
Alongside the tournament action, the afternoon features a robust lineup of live musical performances. High-energy R&B and soul band Valarie & the Dimensions will headline the stage, with a live DJ spinning favorite hits before and after the band performance.
The park will be packed with entertainment for all ages. A specialized Family Fun Zone will keep children entertained throughout the day with face painting and large inflatable attractions. Attendees can also browse a bustling vendor shopping village featuring everything from handmade local crafts and children's light-up toys to official FIFA tournament merchandise.
Savoring the flavors of summer, guests can sample a wide variety of delicious offerings from local food trucks. For adults 21 and older, a festive beer garden will serve ice-cold beer, wine, hard seltzers, sangria, and refreshing vodka lemonades.
The historic community celebration concludes at sundown with a breathtaking fireworks finale. The pyrotechnic display will launch directly over the Raritan River, lighting up the sky in a dazzling tribute to America's birthday.
Admission is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs, and patriotic spirit to the riverfront to enjoy the full day of festivities.
