FRED Adds Median Inflation Data from the Cleveland Fed

October 29, 2026

FRED has added 2 data series about the median personal consumption expenditure chain-type price index (PCE) inflation reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

Median PCE inflation is calculated by ranking all the individual components of PCE inflation and picking the one in the middle. Its construction makes this indicator of inflation less sensitive to short-lived price fluctuations, thereby better capturing the trend in prices.
