FMI Joins Over 400 Stakeholders in Calling on Congress to Extend the Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Arlington, VA - FMI - The Food Industry Association issued the following statement about a large multi-industry effort to urge Congress during its post-election lame duck session to reauthorize an important program utilized by employers to hire Americans.

"FMI is thrilled to join 473 other organizations and employers, including our members and state association partners, in calling on Congress in a broad industry letter to enact an extension of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). FMI has been a champion of WOTC since its inception 30 years ago. WOTC is a key workforce-building tool utilized by FMI members to hire veterans, justice-involved individuals, SNAP participants and other Americans facing barriers to employment," said Christine Pollack, FMI vice president, government relations.

"When Congress returns to Washington, it must heed the urgent call from food industry employers and hundreds of other businesses and organizations around the country to preserve and strengthen WOTC. This tax credit is an important investment in connecting job seekers with meaningful employment in a diversity of opportunities within the food industry," continued Pollack.

The Critical Labor Coalition, of which FMI is a member, launched its WOTC Works campaign earlier this year to urge Congress to enact an extension of WOTC and modest program reforms in the bipartisan Improve and Enhance the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act (H.R. 6231/S. 3265).
