The "Italian System" remains committed to supporting the Venezuelan population affected by the earthquake on June 24. The operations, coordinated by the Department of Civil Protection jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, involve over one hundred Italian experts, including staff from the Civil Protection Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Crisis Unit, the Fire Service with specialist USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) and TAST (Technical Advanced Support Team) units, and medical and healthcare personnel from five Regions.
Italy arranged for the transport of rescue workers and essential supplies via two Italian Air Force flights on June 26 and 27. The second flight also transported the European coordination team operating under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, supported by the Italian Fire Service's TAST team.
In terms of humanitarian cooperation, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani authorised an initial package of humanitarian aid to support the civilian population. These initial resources will also serve to facilitate the work of rescue teams in providing an immediate response in priority areas such as healthcare, the distribution of water and essential supplies, and the construction of temporary shelters. At present, 11 Italian citizens are confirmed dead, 4 injured, 40 missing and 29 have been located.
