WASHINGTON - Congressman Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) released the following statement after Senate Democrats failed to pass a clean, continuing resolution (CR) (H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026) that resulted in a government shutdown beginning on October 1, 2025.
"A government shutdown impacts real people, real jobs, and real kitchen tables across the nation - but especially in Arizona's sixth congressional district. In our district, it harms members of the Armed Forces, CBP Agents, air traffic controllers, seniors, veterans, and so many more," Congressman Ciscomani said. "I have voted and passed SIX continuing resolutions under both Presidents Biden and Trump to avoid government shutdowns. As an appropriator, I know CRs are not ideal - but it prevents a shutdown of the federal government.
Regardless of how my Democrat colleagues try to justify it, a vote against a CR is a vote to shut down the government. Period. I choose to govern, and Democrats choose politics. I voted based on what I stand for, not based on who sits in the White House. To both of our Arizona Senators, do better and put people before politics."
