Visitor Spending for Manhattan Project NHP Contributes $5.4 Million Across Three Communities

DENVER, Colorado: A new National Park Service report shows Manhattan Project National Historical Park had a total of 74,693 recreation visits across its 3 park units in 2024. These visits led to a total of approximately $5.4 million in visitor spending in local communities parkwide. The numbers per site are as follows:

  • Hanford, Washington - 19,644 visits; $773,000 in visitor spending
  • Los Alamos, New Mexico - 25,538 visits; $1.8M in visitor spending
  • Oak Ridge, Tennessee - 29,511 visits; $2.8M in visitor spending
The National Park Service report, 2024 National Park Visitor Spending Effects , shows total NPS visitor spending estimates increased by almost 10% in 2024 compared to 2023 estimates. Visitors spent $29 billion in communities near national parks. This spending provided $18.8 billion in labor income and $56.3 in economic output to the U.S. economy. The lodging sector had the highest direct contributions with $11.1 billion in economic output. Restaurants received the next greatest direct contributions with $5.7 billion in economic output.
