WASHINGTON, D.C.- U.S. Representative Josh Riley (NY-19) today announced he has sponsored the Ban Corporate PACs Act(H.R. 4799) to end the influence of corporate PACs in American elections. The bill amends federal election law to prohibit for-profit corporations from establishing or operating political action committees (PACs).
"For too long, corporate PACs have been able to buy influence in Washington and drown out the voices of everyday people," said Rep. Riley."I've never taken a dime of corporate PAC money, and I never will. This bill makes it the law of the land: no more backroom deals, no more pay-to-play politics. It's time Washington started working for working families, not corporate interests."
The Ban Corporate PACs Actwould:
-
End corporate PAC loopholes- Bars for-profit corporations from creating or funding PACs that pump millions of dollars into campaigns.
-
Keep special interests out of elections- Ensures that only nonprofit organizations can establish PACs, preventing corporations from using their resources to tilt the playing field.
-
Strengthen democracy- Closes the revolving door between corporate money and elected officials, making sure the people's voice carries the most weight.
