Humans of St. Charles - Brittney

"My work means a patient can say 'I love you' to their family, remember their grandchildren's names, eat their favorite meal without fear of choking or connect in a conversation instead of disconnecting. I would say most don't know the scope of what we do. Of course we help with language, but we also help with cognitive skills, swallowing, motor speech and voice. It takes a lot of courage to sign up for a therapy that's looking for your weaknesses. But I'm also looking for strengths. That vulnerability every session is what allows us to rebuild. The patients I work with fight every day to get (back) to their prior level of functioning and I am grateful to be a part of it and help in any way I can."

- Brittney, who provides life-changing care to adults in her role as a speech pathologist with St. Charles' Home Health team, which helps patients recover and rehabilitate from illness or injury in their own residence.
