Bob Remmen has devoted his life to service-first to his country, then to his community, and now to strengthening democracy through political engagement. The disputed 2000 presidential election inspired Bob to get more deeply involved in politics, and he has since been an active member of the DEC.
Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a close-knit Irish Catholic family, Bob learned early the values of faith, integrity, and commitment. While studying at the University of Pittsburgh, his education was interrupted when he was called to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to complete his degree and later pursued a career in public service. His work included time as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in California, a police officer with the University of Miami Public Safety Department, and later with the City of South Miami Police Department and the 11th Judicial Circuit Court.
During his time at the University of Miami, Bob met his wife, Carmen, who he calls "the best thing that has ever happened to me." They have shared 37 years of marriage and raised three children together. Concern for the future of his family remains one of his strongest motivations for civic activism.
Over the years, he has volunteered for numerous campaigns, including Joe Garcia, Daniella Levine Cava, Donna Shalala, Joe Biden, Javier Fernandez, Mike Davey, and Victor Vazquez.
Today, Bob is especially passionate about phone banking. He values the opportunity to connect with voters, encourage participation, and remind people that every voice matters. For him, the greatest reward is simple but powerful: hearing someone say, "Thank you-keep up the good work."
"Phone banking is something anyone can do from home. It's easy, effective, and makes a real difference." - Bob Remmen
With unwavering commitment, Bob continues to dedicate his time and energy to building a more democratic, compassionate, and hopeful future.
