Yesterday and today, Italy voted in favour of the resolution "Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem" and the decision "Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan", adopted in Geneva within the framework of the 79th World Health Assembly.
The two documents address the serious health situation in the Palestinian territories and ask the World Health Organization (WHO) to continue its support for the Palestinian health system, and call on Israel to protect medical staff, allow humanitarian operations and do not obstruct the entry of necessary medical equipment to the civilian population.
Italy's vote in favour follows on from the position taken in 2024 and 2025 and confirms Italy's commitment to supporting compliance with international humanitarian law and safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian assistance. It is within this context that Minister Antonio Tajani's "Food for Gaza" initiative has been launched; since March 2024, it has delivered about 2,400 tonnes of food aid to the Gaza Strip, as well as medical supplies and essential goods.
