The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is funded through annual appropriations for Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); the HHS bill is one of 12 for fiscal year 2026 appropriations yet to be enacted. With no new funding and the government shuttered, some states are warning recipients, including millions of older adults, that energy assistance funds may not be available-at a time when electricity and natural gas prices have risen sharply.
