The American Heart Association Recognizes Winchester Medical Center's Dedication to Saving Lives

Winchester Medical Center has earned four prestigious American Heart Association awards for 2026, recognizing excellence in cardiac arrest care, CPR quality, patient survival outcomes, and heart failure treatment. The AHA's Get With The Guidelines® Resuscitation awards demonstrate the hospital's commitment to following evidence-based treatment guidelines, continually improving care processes, and delivering the highest quality emergency care to patients when seconds matter most. An additional Heart Failure award recognizes the hospital's commitment to delivering evidence-based care that improves outcomes for patients living with heart failure.

WMC has been awarded with the following national recognitions from the AHA:

1. Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation Gold Award recognizes Valley Health's commitment to ensuring people who experience in-hospital cardiac arrest receive evidence-based, life-saving care by consistently following the most current, science-backed treatment guidelines as outlined by the American Heart Association. These gold-standard guidelines address patient safety protocols, rapid medical emergency team response, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation and post resuscitation care.
2. Target CPR Award recognizes excellence in delivering high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a critical factor in improving outcomes when a patient experiences cardiac arrest. Participating hospitals demonstrate a commitment to saving lives by ensuring CPR delivery aligns with the most current, science-based guidelines from the American Heart Association. Recognized sites commit to capturing data on key CPR performance measures, including compression rate, depth and fraction (time spent performing compressions), as well as other CPR quality metrics. Awarded hospitals collect and submit these data for at least half of their in-hospital cardiac arrest cases.
3. Target Survival Award recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated exceptional performance in processes associated with improving survival rates following cardiac arrest. The program evaluates patient survival following in-hospital cardiac arrest and adjusts for multiple factors, including cardiac arrest rhythm, event location within the hospital and prior illness severity. Awarded sites achieve survival rates that place them in the top 40% of all U.S. hospitals participating in Get With The Guidelines - Resuscitation.
4. Heart Failure Silver Plus Award with Target: HF Optimal and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognizes Winchester Medical Center's commitment to providing evidence-based care for patients with heart failure. The award honors hospitals that consistently follow the latest clinical guidelines to improve outcomes, reduce readmissions and help patients manage their condition after discharge. The additional Target: HF Optimal and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognitions reflect excellence in coordinated heart failure care, medication management, patient education and treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes who are at increased cardiovascular risk.
