Pavement Preventative Maintenance for Enhanced Usability

Transportation and Public Works is preparing to launch the 2025 Pavement Preventative Maintenance Project, designed at improving roadway travel for all users, whether you're driving, biking, walking, or rolling. This annual effort focuses on resurfacing key arterial streets with a slurry seal application for improved roadway aesthetics, improved drivability, extend the service life of the roadways, and to repair damaged sections of arterial streets.

This year's project will resurface portions of West Steele Lane, West College Avenue, and North Dutton Avenue, three roadways that serve thousands of residents daily. In addition to resurfacing these streets, the project will implement a "road diet" restriping modification, to reduce speeds and improve users comfort levels. In some areas that means reducing the number of vehicle lanes to make room for expanded Class IV separated bike lanes and enhanced pedestrian crossings.

All roadway changes will follow the "Safe Systems Approach" which focuses on reducing collisions for all road users. These changes are designed to support a more equitable and multi-modal transportation system, giving residents more choices in how they move around the city. Whether you are driving, riding a bike, walking to school, or catching the bus, the updated street design will help make your trip more comfortable.

During construction, residents may experience temporary traffic delays from lane closures and traffic controls. Some bus stops could also be temporarily relocated or closed, so please check transit apps and schedules before traveling. Follow posted signs and drive with care through construction areas. The project is expected to take about two months to complete, depending on weather and unforeseen conditions.

The City of Santa Rosa continues to prioritize investments in infrastructure to ensure streets, crosswalks, and transit routes are safe, reliable, and accessible for everyone.
