Siouxland Libraries and the Sioux Falls School District (SFSD) are partnering to host a back-to-school resource fair ahead of the new school year. Families enrolling students in a Sioux Falls public school for the 2026-27 school year can access registration assistance, community resources and support services during the School Registration and Resource Fair. The free event takes place Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Downtown Library, 200 N. Dakota Ave., in Sioux Falls.

"Libraries serve as a place where families can find information, technology and connections to resources that support their everyday needs," said Leah Tanis, supervising librarian at Siouxland Libraries. "This event brings together partners from across the community to help families start the school year with the tools and information they need."

Siouxland Libraries and the SFSD are partnering to provide families with school registration support and community resources in one location. Families can receive assistance with SFSD online registration, apply for free and reduced-price school meals, connect with health and literacy resources, learn about family support programs and sign up for a free Siouxland Libraries library card. The event is open to new and returning SFSD students. Registration is not required.

Community organizations will be available to answer questions and share information about programs and services. Participating organizations include SFSD Registration and Child Nutrition, Toy Lending Library, Delta Dental, Lions Club, Avera, Sanford Fit, Ready Together Sioux Falls, SFSD Community Learning Centers, Sioux Falls Hope Coalition and Reach Literacy.

"The start of a school year comes with many important steps for families, and we want to make those steps as accessible as possible," said Kim Sharping, senior coordinator with the SFSD. "Providing registration support alongside community resources helps families complete key tasks while learning about services available throughout the school year."

Families are encouraged to stop by the event to complete preparations for the school year, ask questions and connect with organizations that provide support for students and families.
